Desperate For A Used Dahon Flo

Hi!

Unable to afford yet another cross country move, followed by a trans-Atlantic move, with my bike, I gave away my old tried and true, trusted steed to a not-for-profit. It has gone to a good place-- they train at-risk youth to become bike mechanics and teach business management skills, selling the recycled & revamped bikes to urbanites-- but I felt like I was putting down the family dog. I admit it, I cried. And then I went home and watched Old Yeller and cried some more.

Now I am living in Geneva, Switzerland and am going a little crazy without a bike. I would not be able to rationalize getting another like what I had--my life is much too transitory. However, it appears that Dahon has just the solution! Hallelujah! A folding bike that is everything that I need/want it to be AND I can take it with me EVERYWHERE. And I will.

I have my eye on the Flo. It is a bike for life for sure. One that I will never have to part with. Ever. Only catch is that I can't afford one new. I am here in Geneva as a volunteer and this is one expensive city.

But perhaps there is someone who has a used Flo they would like to sell? I do not know why one would sell a Flo, but there could be a reason. And if you have one and want to see it go to a loving, caring, active home, then *please* post a reply or contact me.

Doesn't matter where you live, we can worry about logistics afterward.

I hope that there is indeed some pre-loved Dahon Flo out there that needs a new home...

Dahon/dawes Metropolis Nyc Metro Area

I have a dawes metropolis which a posting from a UK rider on the forum identified as a rebadged 2002 Dahon Compac. I bought it used from the person who brought it back from the UK. It's a 16 incher. The frame is in good shape as are the tires. The seat has a tear that doesn't interfere with riding. The hinge works. The brakes work well and the 3 speed SA hub works - since it's the only internal gear hub I've ever had, I can't say much more than that.

I got the bike for my son - he was 10 and needed a smaller bike that I could fit in the car easily with my folder. He rode it for about a year and it worked well for him. As you might imagine, before I let him onto it, I had it tuned. Now, he's 11 and into bmx and I'm into clearing out the garage a bit. I'm attaching a couple of pictures and have more if needed. One thing is that the guy I bought it from said that it would fit someone up to six feet - I'm 5'9" and I beg to differ. I would say that this bike is for someone up to about 5'6" with the seat post it's got - but if you're taller and into modding older dahons, I'm sure you could figure something out. I just wanted to be clear though that the seat post on this bike is really not meant for taller riders.

I'm looking for around $175 for it. If the pictures didn't attach properly, email and Ill send them.

If you're interested and live in the NY metro area 9I'm on LI), email me through the forum.

Selling Speed Tr 2010 (new York)

I bought a Speed TR in May this year, and am now looking to sell it.

I had got it for commuting purposes in the city (train+bike) to my new job, and possibly roadtrips down the line. But I ended up working hours that made commute by bike impossible. (On trains at least I can sleep) So it was relegated to the occasional weekend excursions around town.

In September I will be moving countries, and there will be many more moves ahead. This I had not quite anticipated, and I spent the last month trying to figure out airport/suitcase logistics, and the concerns around frequent air transportation of the bike, and thought that perhaps this is not so good a time for me to hold onto the Dahon.

The specs are on the website ([url="http://www.dahon.com/bikes/2010/speed-tr"]), and I personally loved the rack that comes with the bike and it was really all I needed. I haven't been riding it too often lately, and had been disappointed that I couldn't, so I thought I could make a post here for serious bidders.

I bought the bike at a bicycle store in Manhattan, which has 6 branches around the city, and it comes with free tune ups and minor repairs for the next two years. I am only about 3 months into it. I paid $1,100 for the bike, $40 for a helmet (it's unused), and $80 for the bag. I also put in a mini front light. All receipts/manuals/original enclosures are with me. And if I end up selling my bike everything will go with it - if anyone is interested, send me a message or make a bid, and we can discuss further. Thanks!

I'm looking to sell my 2007 Dahon Cadenza. It's been ridden a lot but is in good condition with regular services.

Known issues:

Needs a bit of attention to the chain, probably just a good clean as was replaced at last service.
Doesn't have the original Dahon inbuilt pump seat post - these were recalled by Dahon for this model and I swapped to a temporary seat post but never managed to get the official replacement.
The current seat post needs replacing as it can slip if not tightened just right (seat itself is fine, it's just the post)
Magnet that holds it together when folded has fallen out. This doesn't affect the folding mechanism and would be easily fixed with a replacement magnet.

Looking for £200 but will consider all reasonable offers. Original receipts to prove ownership and purchase date are available. Collection only, from South East London.

Gently Used 2006 Steel Frame Dahon Piccolo Folding Bicycle For Sale

A nice steel frame lightweight 16” Dahon Piccolo is now available for sale. I owned it since I bought it new in 2006. I kept it stored inside the house within it’s own nylon bag when not in use. I never rode it in the rain. This method of care seemed to prevent the usual wear and tear most other bikes experienced. The paint job has no scratches beyond a slight scuff or two. It is neat and very clean. I must sell this little rare beauty as I am becoming crowded out of my residence with now 4 bikes-and I have not ridden this particular bike since December 2009-eight months ago. I think it should go to someone who needs it and will also appreciate it.

Price of $300.00 is Firm, Cash Only-All Sales Final No Returns Accepted Serious Inquiries Only Please
Pick Up Only In The Southern California (Los Angeles) Area

Features:
All Original Parts This Bike Came With Including:

2 Instruction Books (yes, the bike shop gave me 2 at purchase)

Three Speed Sturmey-Archer AW Internal Hub Gear

Telescoping Stem AND Telescoping Seat Post (lots of height adjustment options)

Modern Sturmey Archer Twist shifting which “clicks” into gear

Simple Dahon Brand Spring Saddle (mine differs from the official Spec Sheet for some reason but still passable comfort for use)

Original Rear Rack-including the the unique Bungee Cord (used only once) that came with it

Both Fenders/Mudguards

Original Plastic Chain Guard

Original never-been-patched Tires

Bonus Additional Parts & Upgrades Added Later By Myself Included In The Sale:
2 bags (Shopping/Tote style Handlebar Bag sewn by me (see photo at the Flickr Account), & the above mentioned store purchased Nylon Storage Bag

Light Tune Up Involving: New Brake Cable & Housing added to one that cracked by a professional bike mechanic, Lubed All Moving Parts, Light Cleaning & Inspection-Ready To Ride Condition.

For People (from Dahon’s own Spec Sheet):
SUGGESTED RIDER HEIGHT	137 cm - 188 cm (4'6" - 6'2")
MAX RIDER WEIGHT	105 kg.
2007 Curve Sl

Selling on behalf of my girlfriend. She was using the bike for multi-modal commute, popping on and off either a bus or a train on her way to work. Now we've moved further down the coast and a change in shift hours, a multi-modal commute is no longer viable. Now I've upgraded to Speed Pro TT, she usually ends up borrowing the Hammerhead (which she adores) when we go out for a weekend ride, so the Curve is surplus to requirements.

It's a beautiful bike and is perfect for commuting by train or bus. I can't find the specs on the Dahon site anymore, but the full specs can be found here. We've added an Arclite rear rack to the bike, although one of the bolt heads has sheared off (some over zealous tightening on my part). There's a small scratch on rear left and is missing one of the bar end plugs (see photos below).

The bike has been predominantly ridden in the dry and has always been stored indoors (naturally, due to the small folded size). If anyone is interested, feel free to make me an offer. We're based just outside the Brighton area, but I'm willing to deliver within 40-50 miles if I get a serious offer. There's also an El Bolso to go with the bike. I'll be putting both on eBay down the line, but we'd rather offer the bike to the Dahon enthusiasts out there first

http://forum.dahon.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=4849

Pic of sheared bolt head. The quality is superb and the Vitesse is one of their higher end folders.

It has the same geometry as a full size bike and can be adjusted to fit people from 4'8" to 6'4" tall

You get the same riding position as a full sized bike, but the nimbleness of a smaller wheeled bike

In 2007, the Vitesse was rated the overall winner in a folding bike shootout, beating out Giant, Brompton, Birdy, and many other bikes costing up to four times as much.

This bike was over $600 new and is still in like new condition. Very low miles (less than 100).

I have made two modifications to this bike.
I installed a pair of used Schwalbe Marathon Slick tires (dual compound, kevlar, low rolling resistance).
I also replaced the 52 tooth chainring and crank arms with a 46 tooth chainring and crank arms from my 2008 Dahon Curve.

Slate Blue Light 7005 Aluminum Custom Drawn Sonus Frame (26 pounds)
SRAM Shifter with low profile Dahon Neos derailleur
Folding pedals
Folded Size (11.3"x31.2"x25.7")
Radius V Telescopic Aluminum Handlepost
ProMax V Brakes
Stainless spokes with aluminum wheels
Kickstand
This is an awesome folding bike suitable for practically anyone

Bike has been cleaned and serviced and is in amazingly great shape both cosmetically and mechanically

There is one nick on the front left side of the frame where the handlepost scratched the frame while folded (see photos).Otherwise, this bike is like new.

Sunrisecyclery - Negative Experience

Hi,

I recently bought a Dahon online through Sunrise Cyclery as they had a great price with free shipping. Ordered and received the bike within 24 hours. I thought, wow, responsive shop, sent me a tracking email, things were good.

All in all, the bike arrived in good order but was missing the seatpost quick release skewer. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. I called them the next day to let them know and figured they would send me one. The woman on the phone took my order number and contact info and said that they would get back to me. Several days went by so I sent an email through their contact area on their website. Nothing. A few more days go by and I called again. Spoke with someone again who took my info and said she would see if they had one in stock (which she expected that they would) and would send one to me. I asked her to call or email to advise when it was being sent out. That was the middle of last week and still no response or skewer.

Now, fortunately I was able to use an old skewer I had but that's not really the point. Sunrise's post sale customer service is atrocious and despite their prices and speed of shipping I would warn against using them.

I'm sure some of you will chime in and say that I should have used a local shop. I do try, but the the shops in my area don't stock much of what I want and take way too long to place orders so I end up going there 2-3 times to finally get what I need. So please leave this out of any discussions as it's not really the point. The internet reality is that people can and do buy things from areas outside of their immediate area.

If anyone has had a positive experience from Sunrise, then great. This is really just a note to caution that you may or may not receive any post sale service from them which maybe their business model and justifies their pricing.

If anyone from Sunrise is reading this and my problems are the result of one lackluster employee then feel free to chime in and sort out my problem. Otherwise, I hope to make people think twice about using you so that someone who doesn't have spare parts around and some mechanical ability won't be sitting with their new bike waiting for something as simple as a quick release skewer.

2006(?) Speed Tr

Posted July 5, 2010 - north Baltimore area - around $400 depending on options - strongly prefer local buyer.

I've got a used Speed TR with an 06 serial number, now tweaked up into good condition with minor scratches, but ready to sell.

It's ready to sell because it's the second of two TRs I have, and the third should be shipping to me soon. I say "around $400" because I am willing to do some things to it to make it perfect for you, and I might swap out some new gear onto this bike for sale if you like.

The new one I have coming has a dyno hub system, the one for sale does not. I might be willing to trade out the dyno system and light for the old front wheel for a couple bucks, so you'll have that system installed. Personally, I am a flashlight freak as well as a bike freak. I'd rather put a good LED light on my helmet than use a headlight.

The new one is coming with a seat post pump, the old one has a thudbuster. I might give you your choice on those. I like the Thudbuster, but I've got one on the second bike, too. I've got a regular seat and a ladies seat.

I've got new Marathons coming for the old bike - I was planning on putting them on the bike for sale (it has old Marathons on it now, and they ride nice.) But, maybe you want Big Apples instead?

(PS: Marathons were back-ordered. $350 until I get tires on it.)

The new bike has ergo grips, the old one has gel tape and longer bar ends. You want an option on either, or some Cane Creek bar ends?

The bike for sale has a rear rack but no fenders. I may have fenders and front and rear racks to offer by then. Also an option on original folding pedals or quick releases.

I'm going to have more than $500 and some TLC into this bike, but that was my mistake. I couldn't wait to get my hands on a couple of these, so I bought used ones instead of watching for clearances. I'll be selling at a loss, and I'll be disclosing anything that concerns me about the condition of the bike.

I'd like to sell to someone local so we can work out any changes and have you completely satisfied with it, plus you know I'm nearby and have similar bikes to compare notes and so on. I love tinkering with them as much as riding them. I'm looking to make friends and stay in touch - not to make a profit on you.

It's very ride-able now - I suggest we meet at somewhere on the NCR Trail and take a ride together so you can fully appreciate it. I live real close to the Monkton and Parkton parking areas. No hurry on my end as the new tires haven't arrived yet - BUT - if you're dying to get your hands on a TR, you could even buy it as is and we can finish tweaking and swapping parts in the next week or two.

PM or email me rather than responding here, please. I'll post when and if the bike sells.
