Carrying The Basics On An Mup24

My MuP24 is on order and I have yet to see one of these models. Seems that in France, few Dahon accessories are available and right now even the ArcLite rack is unavailable. So I'll be turning to the Internet to order from the UK, Belgium or Luxembourg most likely.

I'd appreciate your advice/recommendations since buying things site unseen can be a challenge.

I'd like to equip the bike for day rides, carrying jacket, pick-nick, camera, lock and so on. I was looking at the luggage truss, but wonder whether that doesn't interfere with folding and carrying the bike around. I'll probably end up getting the ArcLite rack in any event, but then my eyes cross looking at the slew of bags available, not knowing which would work easily on the rack and not interfere with pedaling. Without going overboard on budget of course.

All suggestions appreciated!

Which Rack To Get For A Eco 3?

Hello all,

I've been a proud owner of a red Dahon Eco 3 for little more than a week now, and I'm loving this bike. I've ridden close to 20km (I'm from Brazil, so metric FTW lol) on it already, and it's been great.

I want to add a rear rack to the bike though, but I don't know which one to get: the Arc Rack or the ArcLite Rack. What's the difference betweem them? Are they both compatible with the Eco 3?

If anyone has any experience with these racks and the Eco 3, I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks a lot,
Rodrigo.

Radius Vro Handlepost For The Curve

Just Sharing some photos and description of the new Radius VRO handlepost and syntace ECO stem (Thanks Thor!) on the Curve SL.

1. Top view. Syntace Eco stem with VRO handlepost and stock Kinetix handlebar.

2. Front view. Notice the rubber cups are now reversed.

3. Side view. I find that this angle suits me best after some test riding.

4. This is the latest Radius VRO post with external V clamp and the V-shaped lock. The black plastic knob hits the frame when folded so we have to do something about it later.

5. Just to show the length of the handlepost. Nothing scientific here.

6. Remember to use the existing compression nut for the new post as the one that comes with it was too large. I supposed it is for the Mu SL.

7. I love my 3 year old Blackburn Mars 3.0 so much that it moves from one bike to another. This beauty can be mounted on the super fat seat tube of the Curve using the supplied mounting kit. Try that with the Cateye!

Thanks for viewing.

Comfortable Seat

Hi,
Can anyone recommend a good seat replacement for my Mu XL Sport? It's decent for short two-mile rides (even still, it's a hard seat), but anything more (i.e. leisure ride at beach, or longer ride in general), and my a$s is hurting. I don't need hemorrhoids.

At the same time, I don't want a huge cruiser seat that ruins the aesthetics of the bike, and I don't intend anything longer than 10 mile rides. I'm open to any seat (or is it called saddle?), as I will get an adapter for my I-beam. But I'd just like any recommendations from those of you who have any. Again,

1. comfort
2. price
3. aesthetic

Thanks!

Pro Tt With A Few Minor Upgrades

I got this bike from Thor (Thanks Thor) back in March. Initially I had some issues since I went through the bike myself instead of taking it to my LBS, issues were mostly with the brakes.
Anyway, I'm glad to say that I am now very happy with the braking on my Pro TT. I got everything to work really well with the factory brakes by rerouting the cables to outside of the handle bar and removing a bit of cable length. I also added some cross levers which I really like, with the cross levers the brakes also firm up quite a bit since the cross levers work with linear pull brakes also. But I am glad to say my road levers don't touch the bars and they feel really solid at about half travel, I'd like to add however that I do run my pads fairly close to the rims but I don't usually have any issues with anything building up as most of my riding is on the road.
I was very happy with the setup I had but I couldn't pass up the FRM brakes I have on the bike now. With both setups it is possible to lock up the rear tire, I'm aware that this doesn't help me stop, but since it feels firm I feel much more confident and thus I can enjoy my ride more seems the modulation is much better too.

Well anyway enough talk here's the pics. I threw in a few extras in case anyone is wondering what a Pro TT looks like with a Thudbuster

Fitting An Airzound On A Vitesse

Hi,

I just bought an Airzound horn for my Vitesse D7HG. The horn's trigger & horn are all one piece, separate from the air bottle. The horn should clip onto the handlebar next to my grip, preferably my left grip, so I can catch it with my thumb.

(Incidentally, it looks like I could brake and honk at the same time, and the left grip is the front brake anyway, so all should be good.)

The problem is that of course the bike folds up nice and tight and there's no room for the horn. Back in 2006, Mediaavid fit a horn (which looks like it was the same shape & size) on a Mu XL, but I haven't had the same luck. Mediaavid posted pix of the horn on the Mu XL.

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for how to fit this horn in the right place and within the fold? Currently I'm stuck with removing the horn from the handlebar clip before folding the bike, and letting it hang down. I'm unhappy with that and am afraid that this plastic clip with give out with too much handling like that.

Future Upgrades/accessories For A Eco D7?

What kind of upgrades/accessories can I get for a ECO 3 (D7)? I hate to get something I can't do much with. When I clicked on the accessories tab for it, it comes up blank.

It seems like I can get a Aber Hello, which I may need to bring the handlebars closer to me since it seems to be able to fit all Dahon bikes.

However, I was thinking of getting the comfort handlepost and a suspension seat post down the line.

Yet, I see that the comfort handlepost can only be for those Dahon's that feature a Radius V handlepost. I don't think the Eco has that. I definitely don't see it in the specs. If it doesn't, does that mean I can't get the comfort handlepost?

With the above in mind, does that mean that the suspension seat post will also be out too? I don't see a diameter or much detail in the specs on the bike to be sure it will fit.

Sorry for the novice questions.

Trekking Bars For Vro System?

Is anybody aware of a trekking style handlebar - the kind of figure 8 bars - that can be fit to the VRO clamp system?

Even with bar ends on the TRs stock bars, and moving the clamp to various positions, I am not totally satisfied with the hand positions offered.

Or, is there any good conversion for the T stem to allow more choices? I'm considering picking up a spare handlebar stem to replace one I have that is a bit worn, and experimenting with cutting it off and adding a normal steerer tube top with some JB Weld.

Speed Tr Chainring, Bashguard, Spokes, Sram Drive Maintenance?

I have a 2009 Speed TR. I'm going on a long tour and I need upgrades and spare parts. Can anyone confirm the spoke lengths that a local shop gave me?
Front spokes = 183mm
Rear Left = 159mm
Rear right = 173mm

I want to change the 46T chainring to a 36T, which will lower the 21 low gear inch to a 16 for difficult climbs. I was told I need to get a 110BCD chainring with 5 bolts. Any idea if aluminum or stainless steel is better? If I add a bashguard directly onto the 110BCD bolt holes, do I need longer bolts?
What chain type does it use?

I was cleaning my cassette and removed my rear wheel. I noticed that the wheel was very loose from the SRAM dual drive hub. The 2nd nut on the driveside was loose too, but when I tighten it completely, it prevents the hub from spinning at all. I have never serviced the hub myself so am unsure how it works. I could only get the hub to spin if I loosened the 2nd nut by 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn. Is that how it's supposed to be installed, or is there something wrong? The wheel still wiggles slightly around the hub. Won't this cause some wear?
I wish there was some instruction manuals but I cant find any!
My local bike shop greased my hub with lithium. (It's turned green!)
